Huelgoat is a small village in the heart of Finistère, beside a lake and a forest strewn with enormous moss-covered granite boulders. It sits in the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique, near the moorland hills of the Monts d'Arrée.

Sights

  • The Chaos du Moulin, a jumble of rocks where the river disappears underground.
  • The Grotte du Diable, reached by an iron ladder between the boulders.
  • The Roche Tremblante, a 100-tonne rock that rocks if you push it in the right spot.
  • The Camp d'Artus, an Iron Age hill fort in the forest.

Tips

Paths are well marked from the village; wear good shoes as rocks can be slippery. Huelgoat is about 1 h 15 from Brest or Quimper.
